Laurea in Economia in lingua inglese

Segnaliamo agli studenti un nuovo corso di laurea magistrale in Economia interamente impartito in linga inglese promosso dalla Facoltà di Scienze Politiche di Milano.

TWO-YEAR MASTER’S DEGREE

in

ECONOMICS
AND POLITICAL SCIENCE

The two-year master’s degree in Economics and Political Science (EPS) aims at developing a highly qualified learning track in the fields of economics and political science.

The design of the EPS degree is highly innovative in the Italian university system. Even if inter-disciplinary second-level degrees are not altogether missing in the Italian context, at present only the University of Milan offers a two-year master’s degree in economics and political science.

Interdisciplinary programmes such as the EPS, however, are part of the academic tradition of most EU and non-EU countries. In the English-speaking world, in particular, the undergraduate and graduate programmes in Philosophy, Politics and Economics have represented for more than a century the privileged access to prestigious professional careers in both the economic and the political fields, in public and private sectors alike. Similar experiences are also familiar in the French- and German-speaking university systems.

These deeply rooted traditions underlie the inter¬na¬¬tional character of the EPS programme, which promotes mobility and joint degree agreements with similar courses offered by foreign universities. The language of instruction is English.

About the 2008-2009 programme
The EPS degree is subdivided into two curricula: ‘Economic Analysis and Policy’ (EAP) and ‘Politics, Philosophy and Public Policy’ (PPP). The chief focus of the EAP curriculum is on economic methods and problems, while the emphasis of the PPP curriculum is on political and philosophical methods and issues.

Entry requirements
The programme is intended for top level interna¬tional students. About 40 students are expected to enrol each year, which will guarantee an optimal ratio between instructors and students.

Admission is based on academic excellence. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree or equiva¬lent; a strong interest and/or previous studies in economics, political science or related subjects; undergraduate or graduate training in mathematics and quantitative methods; a sound knowledge of spoken and written English.

Eligible candidates must meet the following requirements:

a) They must have earned at least 60 ECTS credits or equivalent in the following fields: business administration, computer science, economics, law, management, mathematics, philosophy, political science, sociology or statistics (see the Manifesto for the full list). The ECTS credit value of foreign applicants’ undergraduate studies will be assessed by the EPS admissions committee.

b) Non-native speakers of English must be able to demonstrate their knowledge of English either by showing they have at least one year of university studies at institutions where the language of instruction is English, or by possessing one of the following: Cambridge CAE, CPE or IELTS; TOEFL

Applicants meeting the above requirements will be invited to an interview. Candidates lacking the require¬ment specified in point b) will have to take an entrance test of English before sitting for the interview.

Most interviews will take place in the first three weeks of September 2008. On-site interviews will be held at the Faculty of Political Science, Via Conservatorio 7, Milan, on dates to be arranged by phone or e-mail. Applicants living outside Lombardy may be considered for telematic interviews, if they apply by the appropriate deadline (July 31, 2008). The entrance test of English will be held on September 16, 2008, at 9.00 a.m., in Via Conservatorio 7, Milan.
